The History Of The Trail Of Tears Motorcycle Ride

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

September 18th marked the halfway point for one of the year’s must attended motorcycle events, the annual Trail of Tears ride. The Trail of Tears ride now in its 16th year was started back in 1994 by Bill Cason to mark the 1838 forced evacuation of the Cherokee Indians from the South to reservations in Oklahoma and places west. Definitely  not considered as one of the bright spots in our nation’s history, the Trail of Tears or as the Cherokee themselves refer to it “The Trail Where They Cried” was the result of the Indian Removal Act which called for the removal of all Indian tribes from the eastern United States. Over 17,000 Cherokee Indians were taken from their homes and forced to journey more than 2,200 miles to camps west of Oklahoma.

There’s only one thing motorcycle fans love more than lacing up their boots, strapping on a helmet, and hitting the road on their bikes, and that’s experiencing the thrill of the open road with their buddies; if those fellow riders happen to number around the 100,000 thousand mark then even better. It’s hard to imagine that many motorcycle enthusiasts coming together in one place, but that is just what is going to happen September 9th-12th when Roar To The Shore 2010 comes blazing into Wildwood, New Jersey. Typically your average northern beach town, Wildwood’s 5,000 residents welcome the annual event each year with open arms and tons of attractions to keep bikers coming back year after year.
